At Naturally Baby we pride ourselves on providing excellent quality, sustainably sourced and where possible natural solutions to all manor of parenting needs. Wooden children’s toys are one of these areas, and we stock a large number of brands, including; Lanka Kade, Grimms, Plan Toys, Wobbel and Big Jigs, with toys suitable from birth upwards.

The popularity of wooden toys has had a huge resurgence in recent years, influenced by the growing series of documentaries looking at the scale of plastic use within modern society.  It’s a misconception that this global issue is just down to single use plastics.

What are the benefits of buying wooden toys?

From a developmental point of view wooden toys provide children with a direct connection to the natural world and engages and develops their imagination and creativity by providing experiences with toys that offer open ended play (play moves in any direction the child wants it to).  Access of wooden toys has also been shown to promote sharing and team working skills amongst children (something my three are still working on!)

Wooden toys if made with sustainable sourced and certified wood, are much better for the environment than their plastic counterparts. Good quality, eco friendly wooden toys are more durable, recyclable, biodegradable and don’t add to landfill. Wooden toys also tend to last longer and as a result have reduced carbon emissions associated with them. They are often passed down through families and don’t need batteries that often need replacing.

From a health perspective, plastic toys tend to contain chemicals such as PVC, phthalates, BPA and lead, although in small quantities as a result of British and European Toy Safety Standards.

When you choose wooden toys for your children you are making a positive step to reduce our global reliance on plastic and ultimately they health of the planet, why not pop in and see us and have a look at the toys we have available?
