4 week Antenatal Classes & Baby First Aid
Welcome to Naturally Baby, where your learning, comfort, and
confidence are at the heart of everything I do.
I’m Helena, an experienced and practising midwife, and I run these
classes in a calm, supportive environment designed to make you feel relaxed,
informed, and fully able to ask all the questions that matter to you.
Delivered over four weeks in two-hour evening
sessions, this course helps you understand what is happening to you and
your baby during the final weeks of pregnancy, through labour and birth, and
into the early days at home.
With small group sizes, you’ll have the space to learn at your own pace
and feel truly supported as you prepare for the changes ahead.
What the Course Covers
Week One — Understanding Late Pregnancy & the Process
of Birth
We begin by exploring the third trimester:
- What
is happening in your body as it works at full capacity - How
your baby behaves as labour approaches - Which
signs and symptoms are normal - What
to look out for as birth draws near
I demonstrate the shortest yet most complex journey we
ever make — a baby navigating the pelvis and entering the world.
Together, we cover the full process of a straightforward vaginal birth
from the latent phase through all three stages, along with the current
choices and options available to you.
Week Two — Induction, Options for Birth & Pain
Management
What if labour doesn’t start on its own? This week we
explore:
- What
you can do to encourage spontaneous labour - The
induction options offered by your midwifery team - How
babies can be born vaginally or via caesarean section - The
circumstances that may lead to different birth choices - How
much influence you have in decision-making - How
to advocate for yourself and your preferences
We also look closely at all forms of pain relief,
from natural tools and techniques to medical analgesia. You’ll gain a clear
understanding of your choices and how to access them.
We finish the week by discussing place of birth —
labour ward, birth centre, or home — and the factors that help determine the
setting that feels right for you.
Week Three — Welcoming Your Baby & Understanding
Newborn Behaviour
Baby is here! Now what?
This session focuses on the first hours and days with
your newborn:
- What
normal newborn behaviour looks like - Early
feeding patterns - Skin-to-skin
contact - Routine
newborn examinations - Vitamin
K options and information - How
long you might stay in hospital
I guide you through the principles of successful
breastfeeding, including:
- Optimal
positioning and attachment - Understanding
colostrum, milk transitions, and supply - Knowing
the signs of effective feeding - When
to seek support - Expressing
breast milk and bottle feeding
Throughout the session, we explore the close connection
between feeding, bonding, and early attachment.
Week Four — Life at Home & Caring for Your New Family
The early days and weeks can feel intense, and I want you to
feel supported and prepared. This final class covers:
- Your
baby’s first nights at home - Midwife
and health visitor contacts - Newborn
examinations and tests - Feeding
troubleshooting - Disposable
and reusable nappies - Bathing
and practical baby care - Caring
for the umbilical cord - What’s
normal in the nappy — and when to ask for help
We also talk about the emotional and practical adjustments
that come with becoming a family — caring for your baby, caring for yourself,
and caring for each other.
What You’ll Gain
This course is designed to give you the information,
confidence, and self-belief you need to approach birth and early parenthood
with clarity and calm.
You will:
- Understand
your choices - Feel
empowered to make decisions that are right for you - Gain
practical skills for birth, feeding, and newborn care - Build
confidence as you begin this exciting new chapter
I would love to welcome you to the Naturally Baby community
and support you as you prepare for the incredible journey ahead.
Meet Our Midwife
Helena qualified as a midwife in 1996 and has extensive experience in all areas of midwifery but her passion is ante natal support for parents to be and helping them through those early foggy days!
Originally from Sussex, Helena trained and started her career over in East Anglia and moved to Warwickshire in 1999 where she took time out of midwifery to raise three boys of her own. She returned to midwifery practice in 2008, working at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch before moving
to Warwick in 2016. Helena also ran her own charity for ten years, travelling with teams of midwives to Sierra Leone in West Africa, to teach the local midwives life saving midwifery skills.
Helena is married to Chris and lives just outside Kineton where she helps with their flock of 200 sheep and running social events in the local village.
Helena leads our antenatal and hypnobirthing courses here at Naturally Baby, and is available for ongoing ante natal and post natal support in our Baby Hub on the first floor.
